Next week will mark the first anniversary of the takeover of Chelsea by the consortium of American Todd Boehly. An arrival which had echoed the departure of Roman Abramovich, summoned to abandon his functions at the London club because of his close ties with Vladimir Putin and the Russian state. At the time, several properties and several billion euros of the oligarch had been seized and frozen by the British authorities.
This Thursday, The Times indicates that these assets could (finally) soon be released. The British newspaper specifies that 2.71 billion euros could in fact benefit the victims of the war in Ukraine from next month. Information confirmed by Mike Penrose, the former general manager of Unicef UK: “It took much longer than expected due to the complexities and bureaucracies involved in multiple jurisdictions, but now everything is in place. The money is still there and is still on the table, and I’m very confident that the deal will be honored.” As a reminder, Roman Abramovich had himself indicated his willingness to pay the money from the sale of Chelsea to the Ukrainian victims.
